Environmental factors are known as one of the major origins for the formation of architectural elements. They can be studied in two levels of social and natural viewpoint, while each of which includes essential factors that affects the basis of architecture. Herein Iranian traditional architecture as the result of mental upshot of environmentalism human beings is not exempt from these effects.

A general review of the Iranian traditional architecture principles and comparative analysis of these elements, indicates the dominant effects of natural environmental factors on above-mentioned principals. Climatic factors can be considered as the most significant component in natural environment that has a leading influence on the formation of Iran's architecture principles. As in some cases, forming factors merely serve a climatically responsive function and utterly shaped according to natural environmental factors.

A comprehensive look toward sustainable architecture reaches us to this point that it can typically account as the climatically responsive architecture. Comparison between elements of Iranian architecture and sustainable architecture express the application of sustainable architecture principles in the latter scope which will present through comparative analysis in this paper.

The aim of this study is to signify the initial requirements for the formation of main principles of Iranian architecture when it was devoid of shape and form. It's worthy of attention that what this review studies is the effects of natural environmental factors on the formation of architectural elements, and the role of other factors in forming those elements are not disregarded.
