Literary History as an essential part of Literary Studies represents an interesting phenomenon in Cultural Studies and in Humanities in general. The following paper aims to introduce the nature and design principles of Literary History in Albanian literature.
Albanian literature has developed almost simultaneously in different countries and in various cultural, social and political contexts that highly influenced it during 5 centuries of the existence of this literature, and particularly in the 20th century.
This paper will present the methodological principles that can lead to the conceptualization and writing of the History of Albanian Literature. The previous texts of History of Albanian Literature have been written under the pressure of communist ideology over academic thought (1945-1990) and applied distorted methodological principles as they did not include writers that rejected the official politics of the Albanian communist state or the method of Socialist Realism, which was the only literary method officially allowed in Albania. The design principles of the History of Literature will be explained referring to the importance that literature has today as part of the cross-national communication in the field of culture.
