As commonly defined, workplace culture comprises the values, beliefs, ethics, and code of conduct related to the mission of the organization. While the culture of education provides students of interior design a studio atmosphere to address the design of workplace, it is through experiential learning in the actual workplace that a student can connect the theory of the classroom to the everyday practice of interior design. Through cooperative education and the ability to immerse oneself in the field, a student gains technical competencies that help to improve their design skills and knowledge in addition to learning “how” to work in a professional office environment. In other words, they need to understand the culture of the workplace. Knowing that millennials expect a workplace to be engaging and healthful plays a significant role with employers wanting to attract the best talent as the benefits of workplace culture are shared between the employer and its employees.
